These are the terms for using HopSense, the internet-quality service and agent made by Extreme Labs ("we", "us"). By creating a home at eu.hopsense.net or in.hopsense.net, or by installing the agent you agree to them. They are short on purpose; please read them.
1. What HopSense is
A program on your computer measures your internet connection and sends minute-by-minute summaries to the service, which stores them and shows you dashboards, scores and verdicts about your home's connection. What is measured and sent is described in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
2. Beta
HopSense is in beta. It is offered so that it can be tested and improved, and it changes often. There is no service-level commitment: the service may be unavailable, measurements may be lost, features may change or be withdrawn, and history may be reset if a correction to the measurement model requires it. We will say so on the dashboard when that happens. A score or verdict is our best reading of the measurements and not a guarantee about your connection, and it is not evidence you can rely on in a dispute with your provider without checking it yourself.
3. The free plan
During the beta the service is free. A home may enrol up to five devices at a time. A stopped or removed device frees its place. If you need more, write to us; we may grant a larger allowance at our discretion, and we may change the limits of the free plan with notice on the dashboard. We do not charge anything during the beta.
4. Your account
You sign in with an email address you control. You are responsible for the mailbox that receives your sign-in links and for the devices you enrol. Do not share a setup link with anyone you do not want in your home. Tell us if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
5. What you may measure
Install the agent only on computers you own or are permitted to monitor, on networks you are permitted to measure. Do not use HopSense to probe networks that are not yours, to generate load beyond what the agent does by itself, or to interfere with the service or with other homes. Do not attempt to access another home's data or the operator interfaces.
6. Suspension
We may suspend or close a home that breaks these terms, harms the service or other users, or is used in a way the agent was not built for. Where we reasonably can, we will say why.
7. Your data
The privacy policy says what we collect, why, how long we keep it and who can see it. You can delete your home and its measurements from the dashboard at any time.
8. Ending
You can stop at any time: uninstall the agent and delete your home. We can end the beta, or the service, with notice on the dashboard and by email to the address on your account. On ending, your data is deleted as the privacy policy describes.
9. Open source and third parties
The agent is open-source software under the MIT licence, provided as is. Its measurement model is a port of Nexthop, our open-source reference implementation. Windows, macOS and Linux are products of their respective owners, and their terms apply to them.
10. No warranty, limited liability
HopSense is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, Extreme Labs is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from reliance on a measurement, score or verdict, and our total liability for anything arising from the service during the beta is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the effective date above changes and the dashboard says so. If you keep using HopSense after a change, you accept the new terms; if you do not agree, delete your home.
