HopSenseBeta

Support

A wrong number is the bug we most want to hear about.

HopSense is in beta and the loop between a report and a fix is short. Two ways to reach us, and the one in the app carries the evidence with it.

Report a problem from the app

Open the details window from the tray icon and choose Report a problem. Say what happened, pick the last hour, six hours or day, and read the report it prepares: versions, status, and the categories of recent diagnostic events, never raw logs, addresses or network names. Then save it to a file or send it. Nothing is sent without that click. The same form is in your dashboard, for the case where the app itself will not start.

Email

For anything else, or anything you would rather not put in a report. Say which platform you are on, the version shown in the details window, and roughly when it happened. We read what you send only to reply.

Pausing and stopping

For an hour

The tray menu has Pause 1 h. Measurement stops and the icon says so; Resume brings it back sooner.

Stop a device's uploads

In your home dashboard, stop monitoring for the device. Uploads are refused from then on and the slot is freed; the history it already sent stays until you delete your home.

Delete your home

Also from the dashboard. It closes the home, signs everyone out, blocks late uploads and then removes the account and its measurements from the live service.

Removing the program

Windows

Settings, Apps, Installed apps, HopSense, Uninstall. The uninstaller removes the start-up task and asks whether to delete the local history and device identity as well. Keep them if you plan to reinstall; the device then keeps its place in your home.

macOS

Choose Quit from the menu bar icon and move HopSense from Applications to the Trash. If an entry remains under System Settings, General, Login Items, remove it there. Local history and the device key live in ~/Library/Application Support/HopSense; delete that folder too if you want nothing left. From 0.1.53, one command in Terminal does it all and asks first:

/Applications/HopSense.app/Contents/MacOS/hopsense-agent uninstall

Linux

From 0.1.53, one command asks first, tells your home this computer is leaving, and removes HopSense; your history stays unless you say otherwise:

hopsense-agent uninstall

On an older version, hopsense-agent autostart remove stops it, then delete hopsense-agent and hopsense-panel from ~/.local/bin.

Before you write

On Linux and in a terminal on a Mac, this prints what a report usually needs: identity, enrolment, the upload queue and whether an update is waiting. Nothing in it is a measurement of anyone else.
